What is gallery stills and grades in DaVinci Resolve?
DaVinci Resolve is a professional video editing software that offers a range of features for color correction, visual effects, audio post-production, and 8K editing. Within this software, the Gallery and Stills are two important features. The Gallery is a space where you can save, organize, and compare different color grading versions for your clips. It allows you to store color grading presets, or "stills", that you can apply to other clips or projects. This feature is particularly useful when you want to maintain a consistent look across multiple clips or projects.
Grades, on the other hand, refer to the color corrections and adjustments you apply to your clips in DaVinci Resolve. These can include changes to the clip's contrast, saturation, color balance, and more. Once you've created a grade you're happy with, you can save it as a still in the Gallery for future use. This makes the grading process more efficient, as you can quickly apply the same adjustments to multiple clips without having to manually recreate the grade each time.
How to use gallery stills in DaVinci Resolve?
To use gallery stills in DaVinci Resolve, you first need to create a still. You can do this by going to the color page and selecting the frame you want to create a still from. Once you have the frame, right-click on the viewer and select 'Grab Still'. This will create a still image and save it in the gallery. You can also give it a label for easy identification.
To use the still, go to the gallery which is usually on the left side of the color page. Here, you will find all the stills you have created. You can then drag and drop the still onto the timeline or onto a clip in the viewer. This will apply the grade from the still to the clip. You can also compare the still with other frames by using the 'Show Reference Wipe' option. This allows you to wipe the still across the viewer and compare it with the current frame.
How to grade colors in DaVinci Resolve?
Grading colors in DaVinci Resolve involves a few steps. First, you need to import your footage into the software. Once your footage is imported, you can start grading by going to the "Color" tab. This tab is where you will find all the tools you need to grade your footage. You can adjust the color wheels to change the shadows, midtones, and highlights of your footage. You can also use the curves tool to make more precise adjustments.
In addition to the color wheels and curves, DaVinci Resolve also offers a variety of other tools for color grading. For example, you can use the "Color Match" feature to automatically match the colors in your footage to a reference image. You can also use the "Color Warper" to make more complex adjustments to the colors in your footage. Once you're satisfied with your grading, you can export your footage with the new color grading applied. Remember, color grading is a subjective process and it's all about achieving the look and feel that you want for your footage.
How to save and apply grades in DaVinci Resolve?
In DaVinci Resolve, you can save grades or color corrections for future use. To do this, first, make your color corrections on a clip in the Color page. Once you're satisfied with the grade, right-click on the thumbnail of the clip in the thumbnail timeline. Select 'Grab Still' from the context menu. This will save the grade in the Gallery. The saved grade will appear as a still image in the Gallery. You can rename it for easy identification.
To apply the saved grade to another clip, go to the clip you want to apply the grade to. Then, simply drag the saved grade from the Gallery onto the thumbnail of the clip in the thumbnail timeline. Alternatively, you can right-click on the thumbnail of the clip and select 'Apply Grade' from the context menu. This will apply the saved grade to the selected clip. Remember, the applied grade is just a starting point. You can further adjust the settings to match the specific needs of each clip.
